The forest slope looks like mixed-meso. Across the stream is a similar patch of tall herb which runs for ca. 1 mile upstream. For more context see BLUE.126,127, and BLUE.93, 94. The Spiraea was found growing in one clump with the stems covering roughly 2m squared. Most of the stems were 1.5 m high.;This is a tall herb community overhung by upland tree species. The community here is narrow and partially shaded by the gorge slope. It is located on a higher terrace than BLUE.94. There is an estimated 100 stems of Spiraea virginiana located at this observation point. It is rockier here than the previous plot. We surveyed from the confluence of Indian Branch, upriver on river right, all the way to the National Park boundary. This was the only patch of Spiraea found. This community is frequently flooded.
Representativeness
Continuation of tall herb community BLUE.94 Here there is no Platanus occidentalis in the overstory. This community is narrower here (5m). The obs. Point was placed to capture a small population of Spiraea virginiana.
